Drum roll, please. The Smallish Design Awards 2018 are back. We quiz #SDA18 judge Kitty Dimbleby on favourite travel destinations,  childhood keepsakes, and what she’ll be looking for in an award-winning brand.

ALL ABOUT YOU: Kitty Dimbleby, writer and parenting journalist.
LIVES: Bath
CHILDREN: Chloe, five, and Max, two.

How do you start the day?
In a rush! After drop-off I head to my favourite pub for coffee, scrambled eggs, and to work in relative peace and quiet.

Your favourite childhood toy?
My doll, Primrose, given to me by my parents when I was five.

What childhood keepsakes can’t you bear to part with?
Primrose! And a dried four-leaf clover (stuck with Sellotape to paper) that a teacher gave me when I was six and going into hospital for an operation.

Favourite family travel destination?
Dittisham, near Dartmouth. My grandfather lives there now and my children play with the children of women I played with when I was young. It’s my happy place. I’d choose a scruffy cottage there over a villa in the Bahamas any day.

Your children have friends over for tea, what’s on the menu?
Pizza with some crudites (which no one will eat).

The best gift you received as a new mother?
Aromatherapy Associates Deep Relax Bath & Shower Oil. The candlelit baths really got me through those first few sleep-deprived, emotional months.

Who are your parenting inspirations?
My friends – the women I share the up and downs of parenting with; those mamas I can text at any time of the day or night.

What’s the best thing about being a parent?
The love, which can take your breath away, and the laughter – there is so much fun with children.

Share a gem with a first-time mother
That formula isn’t evil – it can be life-saving.

Tell us a secret
I’m a Grey’s Anatomy addict.

What are you looking for in a Smallish Design Awards brand?
Things that are useful but also stylish. There are so many great products out there for parents now; practical doesn’t have to equal ugly.

There’s still time to enter the Smallish Design Awards 2018! Click here to enter one of our 52 categories – the winners will be announced at a glittering ceremony in London later this year. Good Luck!
